Ito Shoha

Biography

1877-1956

Ito Shoha was a Nihon-ga painter of the Meiji to Showa period. She was born in Mie Prefecture and was married to the Nihon-ga painter, Ito Rojo. She studied under the great Japanese painters, Morikawa Sobun and Taniguchi Kokyo. She entered the Chikujokai, a private school established by the famous nihonga painter, Takeuchi Seiho (1864-1842). She is best known for her genre paintings and bijin-ga (beautiful women paintings), along with Uemura Shoen.
