Uragami Shunkin

Biography

Uragami Shunkin (1779-1846) was a Japanese literati painter of the late Edo period. He was born in Bizen Province (present-day Okayama Prefecture) and was the first son of Uragami Gyokudo. He was commonly called Kiichiro.
He learned painting from his father, Uragami Gyokudo during his childhood and travelled around various regions with his father. He settled down in Kyoto and became close with well-known literati figures, such as Rai San'yo, Shinozaki Shochiku and Kashiwagi Jotei. He was excellent in Chinese-style landscape and bird-and-flower paintings.
